LITTORAL As well as a theme, the show comes with an affordable price tag, all work will be under £3000. The LITTORAL theme conveys the strong relationship the exhibiting artists have to water or the land, either through the context of, or inspiration behind their work, or the materials they are working in wood, clay and found natural materials. Emily Ball (last showed Summer_09) continues to immerse herself in the abstract depiction of her children in swimming pools; Nick Bodimeade (Summer _10) will show new beach paintings, with inspiration gleaned from a trip this winter to the Australian coast; Felicity Mara (summer _08) continues to explore the landscape surrounding her home and studio at the tip of the Cornish Coast with a series of new paintings and works on paper. The show will introduce the work of a new painter, Robert Welch, with painterly studies of coastal locations and still lifes. Tim Hilton in the Guardian said of his work: 'I recommend the sturdy naturalistic paintings by Robert Welch. He is one of the most serious of our figurative artists, yet his vision owes a lot to his abstractionist contemporaries.' |
